A US APPEALS COURT HAS UPHELD AN $83.3 MILLION DEFAMATION VERDICT AGAINST DONALD TRUMP IN WRITER E. JEAN CARROLL'S CASE
This decision comes
after Trump's appeal to overturn the verdict, which was initially awarded in
January. Trump had claimed he was entitled to presidential immunity from
Carroll's lawsuit, but the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan
rejected this claim .
The case stems from
Carroll's accusation that Trump raped her in a department store dressing room
in the mid-1990s. Trump denied the claim, calling Carroll "not my
type" and accusing her of fabricating the story to promote her memoir. A
jury found Trump liable for defamation, but not rape, and awarded Carroll $2.02
million for sexual assault and $2.98 million for defamation in a separate case .
The appeals court
described the $83.3 million award as justified, given the "extraordinary
and egregious facts" of the case. The judges noted that Trump's attacks on
Carroll intensified as the trial approached, demonstrating malice and deceit
over several years .
Trump's legal team has
stated that he will continue to appeal the verdict, saying, "President
Trump will keep winning against Liberal Lawfare, as he is focusing on his
mission to Make America Great Again"
