ASUP REJECTS PROPOSED SCHEME OF SERVICE, THREATENS STRIKE OVER POLYTECHNIC EDUCATION AND STAFF WELFARE CONCERNS
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi Branch, has vehemently rejected the controversial Scheme of Service for Polytechnics, citing blatant discrimination against Higher National Diploma (HND) holders and erosion of hard-won gains in their fight against this practice. The union has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to suspend the scheme's implementation or face industrial action. ASUP Chairman Comrade Muzammil Mansur emphasized that they will not stand by while their members face discrimination. The union's resolution, passed at their 110th National Executive Council meeting, strongly opposes the scheme, highlighting provisions that entrench discrimination against polytechnic graduates, including discriminatory entry points for degree and HND holders, and bias against HND holders in appointments.
