Air Vice Marshal Haruna Umar (Rtd), Zonal Coordinator of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), disclosed that the collaborative efforts of security agencies have resulted in the recovery of over 20,000 assorted small arms and light weapons in Nigeria within the past two years. He made this statement in Sokoto during an engagement with stakeholders and the general public, where he led a team of officials from the North West Zonal Office of the center to discuss strategies for mopping up small arms and light weapons in the possession of non-state actors. He emphasized that the availability of these weapons is fueling insecurity in the country and stressed that meaningful progress in the fight against terrorism and banditry requires a focus on disarmament
