President Tinubu names national theatre after Wole Soyinka
President Bola Tinubu has honored Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka by renaming the National Arts Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, as the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts.
This tribute comes as Soyinka celebrates his 90th birthday. In a personally signed homage, Tinubu praised Soyinka's remarkable literary achievements and his unwavering dedication to human dignity and justice. He highlighted Soyinka's courage in speaking truth to power, fighting for the marginalized, and his contributions to Nigeria's struggle for democracy.
Tinubu noted that Soyinka's influence extends beyond Nigeria, inspiring people worldwide with his work as a playwright, poet, actor, and human rights activist. The renaming of the National Theatre is a fitting recognition of Soyinka's legacy as a national treasure and global icon.
