The warning is part of a larger initiative to enhance flood early warning systems and risk mitigation strategies in the state, which is prone to natural disasters. The nine affected local governments identified by NEMA are: Makurdi, Tarka, Gwer West, Kwande, Buruku, Guma, Agatu, Logo, and Kastina-Ala.
