"THE LABOR MOVEMENT IS MAINTAINING ITS DEMAND FOR A MINIMUM WAGE OF N250,000 UNTIL NEGOTIATIONS WITH PRESIDENT TINUBU ARE CONCLUDED."
The Nigerian labor movement, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), is maintaining its demand for a minimum wage of N250,000, despite a tripartite committee's recommendation of N62,000. Labor leaders, including NLC President Joe Ajaero and TUC President Festus Osifo, met with President Bola Tinubu to discuss the issue, but no agreement was reached. The meeting was adjourned until next week, with both figures remaining on the table. Labor leaders emphasized the economic hardships faced by Nigerians and the need for a higher minimum wage. The Federal Government is optimistic that a resolution will be reached by next week. The President has not sent a proposed minimum wage bill to the National Assembly, pending further consultations.
